Welcome to 2008                                                                  7th February 2008

Welcome to 2008.  A new year and a lot of exciting things this year.

Firstly, after 7 years the Adult Class has relocated to the Ashmore PCYC.  This means that all classes are located in the same venue, which makes it easier for everyone.

This year there are a number of tournaments that we are able to participate in, including a Qld championships in Rockhampton and an Australian Championships in Brisbane.  There are also a number of seminars planned for  this year including Senior Master Cutler in November.

There will also be some regular training with my good friend Master Graham Healy from Brisbane who is the Director of South Pacific for Commando Krav Maga, the unarmed combat style of the Isreal Special Forces.

Lastly, there will be some training sessions with a couple of clubs from both Central Queensland and Northern New South Wales who are interested in training with us.

I recently travelled to Rockhampton in Central Queensland to conduct a 2-day training semianr for the Chang Hun Taekwno-Do School.  Many years ago I trained in taekwon-do in Rockhampton and was one of the founders of the Chang Hun School.

After an absence from the organisation, they have recently re-affiliated with the ITF.

I would like to welcome back to the ITF Sabum Gary Roberts (5th Dan), Sabum Shayne Studdart (4th Dan), Boosabum Steve Walsh (3rd Dan) and Boosabum Rudy Weirsma (3rd Dan).

More that 70 students attended the event ranging from White Belt, all the way up to 7th Dan Master, with a number of clubs traveling a considerable distance to attend.  I would like to thank my friend and colleague Sabum Spiro Cariotis for co-organising Grandmaster Rhee's trip with me and to the following instructors and clubs for supporting what was a rare event.

Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha to visit Australia in 2007                12th October 2006

Dear Colleagues and Fellow Taekwondoists

It is with great pleasure that I announce that, at the invitation of Sabum Spiro Cariotis and myself, Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha will be be touring Australia, during the month of May, 2007.

After returning from the highly successul European Championships in Thessalonica, Northern Greece, in which 39 countries were present with around 400 participating competitors, Grandmaster Rhee confirmed the dates for his visit to Australia in 2007. At this stage he will conduct two seminars: one in Melbourne and the other in Queensland.

This is an opportunity to rise above the trivial political differences that divide our great Art "Taekwon-do": now we have an opportunity to train and to personally meet this great practioner of Taekwon-do, so named by the Founder General Choi Hong Hi (1918-2001).

Information leading to this major event in ITF history in Australia will be forwarded during the coming weeks.

In May 2007, Grandmaster Rhee, Ki Ha has been invited to travel to Australia at the invitation of Mr Spiro Cariotis (Melbourne) and myself to conduct a number of Taekwon-Do semainrs around the country.  Final dates will be available in the near future, but we are planning to have Grandmaster Rhee on the Gold Coast around the middle of May.  The seminar will run for two days and will be open to all Taekwon-Do students.

For those that are unfamiliar with Grandmaster Rhee, here is some information.

  • First person in history to leave South Korea as an official Taekwon-Do Instructor.
  • Founding Member of the International Taekwon-Do Federation.
  • Founder of Taekwon-Do in Britian.
  • Founder of the United Kingdom Taekwon-Do Association, Republic of Ireland Taekwon-Do Federation and the All Europe Taekwon-Do Federation.
  • World Pioneer of Taekwno-Do
  • First person in history promoted to the rank of "Grandmaster" by the founder of Taekwno-Do, General Choi, Hong Hi.
  • Called "The best student EVER of Taekwon-Do" by the founder General Choi, Hong Hi.

This is a rare opportunity to train with one of the true pioneers of Taekwno-Do and the greatest exponent of Taekwon-Do in the world.

Message from Grandmaster Rhee, Ki Ha.

To all ITF practitioners,

Today, 22nd March 2006, it is 40 years since the founding of the International Taekwon-Do Federation by General Choi.  The ITF has been the organisation through which true Taekwon-Do has flourished around the world and it is a privilege for me to be the senior Grand Master of our Federation.

This privilege is tinged with sadness.  Sadness that the founder of Taekwon-Do, General Choi Hong Hi, is not here to celebrate this historic milestone with us and sadness that since his death the ITF has been weakened by the in-fighting and formation of other federations to promote Taekwon-Do.

On this occasion of our 40th anniversary and as one of the founding members of the original federation, and the only remaining founding member, I have a great feeling of optimism.  I can see a future, closer now than ever before, where we see the joining of the WTF and the ITF, under the banner of the Olympic games.  Already we see the North Korean and South Korean teams parading together at the opening ceremony, if this can happen then why can't we work together for unity with Taekwon-Do.

The ITF is not and never has been a North Korean martial arts organisation.  Taekwon-Do was born in South Korea, the ITF was formed in South Korea but for General Choi and myself there is no North and South, there is only one country.  The same is true with Taekwon-Do.  There should be one organisation, one governing body for the development and teaching of our martial art.

So let us use this celebration to embrace all of the good in the Taekwon-Do world and to work together towards harmony.  This year I have been asked to teach seminars and courses around the world.  The schedule is already very full but as the last remaining pioneer master in the ITF I ask you all to invite me to your country and I will make every effort to come to see you, teach you and practice with you.

Best wishes for the 40th anniversary year and for the future.

Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha.

Classes Resume for 2006                                             2nd February 2006

I would like to welcome everyone back to training for another year.  Classes have begun at both the Ashmore and Nerang Clubs.  A number of new students have joined our ranks and I encourage them to do their best and to most importantly enjoy themselves.

A number of events have been planned for this year, the first being a trip to the Sunshine Coast for the 40th Anniversary Tournament hosted by Master Moore.  This should be a very good tournament and I encourage all to participate.

New Black Belts                                                 3rd December 2005

Congratulations to Miss Annie Lin and to Mr Chris Mosca for successfully passing their Dan testing.  Miss Lin was successful with attaining her 1st Dan Black Belt while Mr Mosca was successful with his 2nd Dan.  These two promotions were well deserved, with both students having to undertake 3 hours of testing requirements.

Once again, well done.
